Regions With Less Elderly Abuse

There is elderly abuse pretty much in every region of the country, but some regions are less prone to elderly abuse than others. When you look at the rate at which nursing homes medicate their residents with antipsychotics, you won’t find many nursing homes with average rates below 20%. But there are lots of regions in the country where nursing homes put 90% or more of their residents on antipsychotics (data collected by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid). These are clearly regions where elderly abuse is rampant. You will be abused there whether or not you are in a nursing home, since the population of care providers for the elderly is corrupt, unethical, and abusive in these regions.

The table below identifies towns of the country that have a relatively low potential of elderly abuse. All towns listed in the table include multiple nursing homes in which, on average, no more than 20% of residents are put on antipsychotics. In these towns, chances are the lowest that you will end up being abused during your golden years. The population of elderly care providers in these towns is more ethical and law abiding.

Surprise! Some common retirement areas are not included!

The data listed in the table was derived from data collected by the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid.
